Bobs yer uncle
Individuals can't change the world. Organised, informed and commited groups can. Live8 was truly awesome, from the moment U2 rang out the clarion call of Vertigo. In those first hours I thought of Howard, and the young man I was when I witnessed the first event with him, 20 years back. I considered how all the artists have grown, and how the younger ones are better informed than their predeccesors were, and how much cooler they looked! And I thought about how I've grown, and not always for the better. Political conciousness doesn't always inspire faith in human kind. I'd even anticipated a negativity about event, a sense of frustration similar to the Kyoto discussions. But the spectacle, and the absence of egotism, coaxed the cynic out of me, and pummelled it into submission. Live8 was technically, politically and emotionally pitch-perfect - and it rocked!
